An Insomniac Reviews: Survive! Mola Mola!

Well, time to do another review I suppose. This time it’s of the iPhone app “Survive! Mola Mola!”, a game where you have to keep a little fish alive.

Survive! Mola Mola! is a simple enough game for the iPhone and iPad. The general idea of the game is that you have a fish (the ‘mola mola’ from the title) and you have to get it to survive as long as possible and through as many life stages as possible.

This is a typical adventure screen. Notice the red text saying “Survival Chance”?

The problem is that the fish dies very easily. It can die from going on adventures that you go on to get it to grow, it can die from eating food, etc. Each time a Mola Mola dies, you get a few points (MP) that are used to upgrade the type of food and adventures as well as the amount of food that can show up on screen at any one point in time.

Every time a fish dies, the new fish you start off with has a decreased chance of dying from the thing that killed the previous one. That means that if a mola mola forgot how to breathe because they were scared of a sea turtle, the next mola mola won’t die as easily to the sea turtle event.

Yes. The fish CAN die from fear of sea turtles.

All in all, it’s a fun game to play. That’s basically all there is to the game – feed your fish, go on adventures, help it grow and try to keep it alive.
